Usable roof space
Roof direction, shade and the space around chimneys affect the panel layout. A large roof is not always a large usable roof: the areas that receive sunlight matter more than a panel count on its own.
Make your roof work for the way you use electricity. We’ll assess your Essendon home’s roof, sun and shade, then design a solar system around your household and future plans.

If your address is in a Heritage Overlay, the proposed panel position matters. Moonee Valley City Council’s guidance says panels concealed from a street, other than a lane, or a public park can be exempt from a planning permit under the heritage rules. Visible panels may require an application.
Check your property’s overlay and the proposed layout with Council before treating a rear roof or garage as a straightforward alternative. That roof still needs suitable sunlight and space. This is an address-specific check; it does not mean every Essendon home is heritage protected.
Read Council’s solar and heritage guidance, including its layout diagrams and planning contact.

The SEN person who assesses your home also designs the system. Our in-house team installs it, with a local base in Tullamarine.
These roof panels are from the Essendon job shown on our local overview page. The photo shows the installed layout, rather than an estimate of output. Your roof’s direction, obstructions and electricity use need their own assessment.

A call about your home. Tell us what you have now and what you want solar or a battery to do.
A proposal you can review. We put the proposed system and price in writing, so you can see what is included.
A site visit before a firm price. If you want to continue, we check the installation details at your property and put any changes in writing.
Not necessarily. Roof direction changes when panels receive sunlight; shade, available area and your usage also matter. We assess the available roof sections instead of choosing a system from roof direction alone.
No. Solar and storage can be planned together or separately. A later battery must suit the inverter and electrical setup installed now. Explore adding a battery in Essendon.
A typical grid-connected solar system shuts down during an outage for safety. Backup requires a system specifically designed for it. Ask what equipment and circuits are included if backup is part of your plan.
A useful price needs a proposed layout and installation scope. Equipment, roof access, electrical work and connection requirements can change the total. Our assessment starts that discussion; a site visit checks the installation details before a firm price.
Use Solar Victoria’s current eligibility guidance. Eligibility and programme rules need to be checked for your application; we have not deducted an assumed rebate from a price on this page.
Talk through your roof, your electricity use and what you want solar to do. We’ll start with a free assessment, then put the proposed system and price in writing.
